The 1895 Mayo's Cut Plug N300 card of Hall of Famer Cap Anson is well-known throughout the hobby, often considered the standard-bearer for 19th Century tobacco cards just as the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card is for the post-war era. But because of its extreme age, limited availability and extremely vulnerable black borders and reverse, it's rarely offered in any grade higher than GOOD yet highly coveted in any condition. Featured here is one of the finest surviving examples, an SGC 80 EX/MT 6 specimen matched by just 4 others with a single specimen graded higher as reported by SGC. The iconic image of the mustachioed superstar, credited as the game's first player to reach the 3,000 hit milestone, remains well preserved, near perfectly framed with minimal chipping around the exposing black border and a virtually unadulterated jet black backdrop. The corners amaze at proper EX/MT quality and the overall presentation of the card, given its significance within the hobby, is absolutely surreal. With only a handful of other contemporary issues to choose from, including the N28 Allen & Ginter, N162 Goodwin Champions, N172 and N173 Old Judge, and N284 Buchner Gold Coin, there aren't very many Anson cards out there and they certainly aren't offered in this elite-level condition. If you've always wanted a Mayo's Cut Plug Anson, you've got one of the best in existence here!
