Graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4. Offered is a presentable mid-grade N172 Old Judge specimen featuring Adrian "Cap" Anson, baseball's first great superstar, in his "street clothes" pose. VG/EX corners join EX/MT edges around a well centered image that displays some soiling in the upper field as well as on the reverse. The image of Anson is precisely focused but has lost a noticeable degree of contrast over its 122 years of existence. But let's not mince words! This is an 1887 Old Judge example of Cap Anson, the most famous baseball player of the entire 19th century. Over 100 years after his retirement from the game he so thoroughly loved that he wouldn't completely share it with capable players of all colors, Anson still holds Cubs franchise records for most career RBI, runs, hits, singles, doubles, and putouts.
